For Coventry, Sandwell, Solihull and Walsall
Dear Councillor……
After a decade of austerity and with the devastating economic impact of Covid across the UK, local council pension funds could be used to support local investment priorities. I am extremely concerned that WMPF, administered by Wolverhampton Council has said it still invests 6.9% of equities in fossil fuel companies.
Recently a report from UK Divest (Friends of the Earth & Platform) also found that West Midlands Pension Fund have the third highest exposure to fossil fuels of any local government pension scheme in the UK, investing £508 million in the top 200 most polluting fossil fuel companies in the 2019/2020 financial year.
It is important that local councils in the fund make their voices heard.
Please will you pledge to support fossil fuel divestment of our local government pension fund, and reinvestment locally to support transition to a low carbon future. The pledge form is at https://divestwmpf.org/pledge
Thank you for taking this important action.
Yours Sincerely
